Are Profaligner braces visible when worn?

Our Aligners are made of a transparent medical plastic. This is why they are barely visible to others when worn, even when looking closely – so those around you will not notice that you are straightening your teeth.

What material are Profaligner braces made of?

Our Aligners and Night Aligners are made of medical grade PET-G (polyethylene terephtalate) / PU (polyurethane), which are known for their excellent aesthetic properties. They contain no plasticisers, making them BPA-free. Our Aligners and Night Aligners are produced here in Switzerland in our own production facilities.

By the way, after treatment, you can return your Aligners to us and we will recycle them for you.

How long do I have to wear my Profaligner braces?

For best results, wear your Aligners 22 hours a day. For eating and dental hygiene, you can remove them at any time.

Night Aligners

You should wear your Night Aligners for 8 to 10 hours every night.

Length of treatment

Aligner treatments take around 3 to 12 months or 4 to 14 months in the case of Night Aligners. It also depends on how many Aligners are required to straighten your teeth.

What are attachments?

Attachments are small, transparent composite buttons that are bonded to your teeth. This allows your Aligners to exert more pressure on the teeth.

Attachments are used for various malocclusions, are hardly noticeable and are removed after treatment.

During your free consultation appointment, our dentists will tell you whether they are necessary for your treatment.

Does the Profaligner treatment also work with crowns, implants or missing teeth?

If you have crowns, missing teeth or implants, our expert dentists will be happy to give you personal feedback.

During your consultation it's critical to let them know what kinds of dental treatments you've already had. This way we have all important information on hand before your treatment begins.

Are there any restrictions during my treatment?

Eating and drinking

Generally, you can eat and drink what you want during treatment as long as your remove your Aligners beforehand.

It is not necessary to remove your Aligners to drink water.
You should remove your Aligners before eating and before drinking alcohol, hot drinks such as coffee or tea, and soft drinks.

However, we strongly advise against chewing gum during your treatment with Aligners. Gum can stick to the Aligners and damage them.

Smoking

You should also take out your Aligners when smoking. Otherwise you run a higher risk of them becoming discoloured (becoming brownish) or misshapen.

By the way: in your bestsmile Box you will find an Aligner case to store your braces when you take them out. So you’re always flexible, even when you’re on the go.

Piercings in the mouth area

As a general rule, piercings are not an obstacle to start a bestsmile treatment. In the case of existing piercings in the mouth area, it is not absolutely necessary to remove them beforehand to start an Aligner or a Veneer treatment. Your dentist will be happy to advise you on this.

Important: when starting treatment, the pierced area should be completely healed. Basically, piercings on the lip and tongue can damage the hard and soft tissues in the mouth and are prone to plaque, which can worsen overall oral health.

What are dental bridges?

Dental bridges are false teeth that are anchored into the bite. They literally "bridge" a gap in your mouth. The teeth to the left and right of the bridge units (pontic) serve to attach the bridge and are called abutment teeth or anchoring teeth. Crowns are applied to these neighbouring teeth so that they can hold the bridge tooth in place. In order to apply a dental bridge, the adjacent teeth must be intact and have a strong root.

When are dental bridges used?

Dental bridges are used for aesthetic and health-related dental corrections for patients with missing teeth. Missing teeth can be caused by the following:

  • Cavities or inflammation
  • Accidents, falls or external mechanical influence
  • Genetic predisposition

Gaps due to missing teeth can lead to difficulties chewing and speaking and can also cause problems with maintaining the position of the other teeth. Dental bridges restore both form and function to your bite.

What material are dental bridges made of?

At Profaligner we exclusively use high-quality ceramics to produce bridges.

How long do bridges last?

The lifespan of a bridge depends heavily on the material used and the patient's oral hygiene. On average, ceramic bridges last 15 years or longer.

It's very important to brush your teeth regularly in order to ensure the longevity of your bridge(s). The place where the edge of the crown meets the gums and the neighbouring teeth can be especially sensitive and needs to be taken care of accordingly.

How much does a dental bridge cost?

At bestsmile, we offer bridges starting at CHF 3,000. The total costs depend on the amount of correction needed.

  • 3-unit ceramic bridge: CHF 3,000
  • 4-unit ceramic bridge: CHF 3,500
  • 5-unit ceramic bridge: CHF 4,000
  • 6-unit ceramic bridge: CHF 4,500
